Meet the Visionary Leaders
Subi Nanayakkara
Co-Founder & Director
With over a decade of experience working in Europe in the UN and NGO sectors, l’ve been fortunate to raise funds for critical causes and receive specialized training to support survivors of abuse. I’ve learned so much along the way, and this knowledge has inspired me to put it into action in Sri Lanka, where the rates of domestic abuse are alarmingly high. Despite the progress we’ve made globally, the challenges for women in Sri Lanka remain profound.
Survivors are often left without the support they desperately need, and the system frequently fails them. That’s why we’re focused on providing immediate relief and long-term solutions for women and girls impacted by violence. Our goal is to help them rebuild their lives and give them a chance to reclaim their futures.
With the expertise l’ve gained over the years, I’m committed to bringing these insights to Sri Lanka, where the need for comprehensive support services is more critical than ever. By combining resources, knowledge, and a dedication to real change, we aim to make a meaningful impact where it’s most needed.
I know the stories of abuse are often heartbreaking, but I remain optimistic. There’s a growing movement to listen, believe, and support survivors in a way that empowers them. I truly believe we all have a role to play in advocating for what’s right and speaking out for those who can’t.

I’ve always believed in the power of people to create change. Whether it’s a small act of kindness or a powerful movement for justice, it’s people who spark transformation. That belief is at the heart of People Empowering—a foundation built to uplift communities, break barriers, and open doors of opportunity for those who need it most.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been passionate about equity and inclusion. I’ve always wanted to amplify the voices of those who are often overlooked or silenced. People Empowering gave me the chance to turn that passion into action, to help ensure that everyone has the dignity, freedom, and support they need to thrive.
I’m incredibly fortunate to work alongside a team of inspiring individuals who share the same commitment to making a difference. Together, we’re on a mission—whether it’s through grassroots projects, advocacy campaigns, or partnerships with organizations near and far—to create sustainable change that not only transforms lives but also strengthens entire communities.
What fuels me most is the belief that we’re stronger together. When we bring expertise, compassion, and innovation to the table, we can build a world where no one is left behind.

My journey has focused on leveraging visual media to connect communities and drive meaningful change. Through documentaries and social media narratives, I spotlight the challenges, resilience, and triumphs of those facing adversity.
In today’s digital world, I believe visual storytelling is a powerful tool for social impact. Each frame has the potential to shift perceptions, inspire action, and create lasting change. My work centers on crafting narratives that not only raise awareness but also encourage tangible support for critical causes.
